Brooklyn's in da House

X

11pm and we have just left the Brooklyn Museum and art gallery where we went after another sumptuous dinner this time in Williamsburg. How can an art gallery be full at 11 o'clock on a Saturday night I hear you ask, well they have live music and they have a stunning collection (look up Weiwei) to attract crowds and they certainly came. Not that the day has been without other stimulation, starting with the Brooklyn Flea Market, the likes of which we have never seen before, Philip could have filled a shipping container with stuff! No macrame or ceramic mugs but serious vintage gear throughout and of course, more amazing food.

A short stroll through the lovely and leafy streets of Brooklyn had us at East River under the Manhattan Bridge (Dumbo) looking across the river to Manhattan and to the Brooklyn Bridge, our first real glimpse of New York proper. It sure looks big like we always pictured it but we have already grown to like the scale and diversity of Brooklyn, no small suburb though, think half of Sydney! So no great rush to look at skyscrapers.

Mary's hairdresser recommended a Williamsburg restaurant, named 5 Leaves, to us as there is a family connection, sort of six degrees of separation stuff, well it worked out to be a gem and while the food was superb the service was faultless we also had the good fortune to meet a couple of 'real' Noo Yoikers who brought the whole experience to life. We are gob-smacked by the sheer numbers of people out and about chillin da hood.
